We’ve carefully designed this day to be a "recharge" session. We aren't just painting—we’re building a community of support. We are honored to host two incredible guests:
Aya Shabarek, renowned author of "The Way We Read," This inclusive event begins with an author introduction, followed by an ASL-integrated read-aloud designed to engage visual and auditory learners alike. To deepen the experience, children are invited to explore authentic Braille samples, providing a unique tactile connection to the world of literacy. The event will conclude with an official book signing and opportunities for purchase.
Juveria Thasthahir, M.S., CCC-SLP, a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist from NY. Juveria will be offering complimentary on-site consultations for attending families. This is a perfect chance to ask questions and get professional guidance in a safe space.
Rather than a high-pressure art class. Here is how we are curating the sensory experience:
Tactile Exploration: We provide a variety of brushes, sponges, and even finger paints for those who seek tactile input, alongside "no-mess" tools for those who are more sensitive to textures.
Visual Comfort: By dimming the overhead fluorescent lights and using soft, warm lamps, we reduce visual overstimulation, allowing the vibrant colors on the canvas to be the soothing focus.
Auditory Peace: There will be no background music or loud timers. The session is guided by soft voices, allowing the natural, rhythmic sounds of painting—the "swish" of the brush and the "clink" of water—to create a natural ASMR-like environment.
A "No-Pressure" Zone: This is a process-based session. Whether a child wants to paint for 5 minutes or the full hour, or simply explore the textures of the paper, they are in a judgment-free zone.
What to Expect
We are so excited to announce our upcoming Sensory-Friendly Paint Session at Shof Studio!
We’ve designed this afternoon specifically for our autistic community, ensuring a calm, supportive environment where creativity has no limits.
A portion of our proceeds will be donated to MUHSEN, an initiative founded by Imam Omar Suleiman.
